Developing Good Assessment Practice

In the Autumn of 2007, Advisers in Education in collaboration with NATRE and AREIAC and RE Today, successfully tendered to the TDA for funds for a small project that aimed to build the capacity of local teachers network groups in secondary schools. The project was a pilot and we therefore chose to focus on the north-east and east London areas. Two schools would be chosen to be involved from nine local authorities. These were:

Barking and Dagenham
Havering
Newham
Redbridge
Tower Hamlets

Waltham Forest
Enfield
Hackney
Haringey

The plan was to encourage teachers to work more with each other, to share ideas and resources and to
focus on two areas of interest:

  1. Learning in RE outside the classroom;
  2. Improving strategies for assessing, recording and reporting students' achievement

Two conferences were held; one in January 2008 and one in May 2008 and between the conferences teachers worked with each other and a local RE specialist adviser. The materials on this website are the fruits of this project and the teachers' hard work. They vary from worksheets, schemes of work, images of children's work to video recordings made by students on their visits and interviews with members of staff. The teachers concerned have offered this material on the basis that others may find it useful and can adapt it to suit their own context as appropriate.
