Design an RE logo

RE logo

My design is based on the six main religions as subjects (Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Hinduism). I tried to emphasise that all religions are the same but different by moulding all the symbols into 1 (shown in the very middle). This was a meaning of equality but also representing differences.

Right from the start I had decided to make my piece of work a design that you had to look into hard to see things - just like religions. You have to look deep into a religion to find the true meaning of it. I think I have achieved this look by scattering related pictures aroung the six sections to create a collage effect. I used the names of the religions over the Religious symbols to represent individuality as well as boldness. I used a Sun at the side of my design, as a light that everyone is aiming for, our goals in life (I used warm colours for this).

After I had finished my design I felt my work needed something to draw it all together so I created a border including all the thing I think should be in a religion and things to do with religions.

For each of the religions I had chosen two of the images to write about and why I put them there.

  • Sikhism
Kirpan - I used this because the Kirpan is one of the five K's and is sacred to Sikhs
Kanga - I used this because it was one of the five K's but also because Sikhs still use them today
  • Judaism
Menorah - I used this because it is very important to Jews. At special times (Seder Meal), Jews make sure they have one on display.
Torah Scroll - This is important to Jews because it is a way of teaching and includes special Laws.
  • Christianity
Angel - To Christians these are spiritual beings that some people believe are messengers from God.
Crown of thorns - The Crown of Thorns was what Jesus was wearing when he was crucified.
  • Hinduism
Lotus - A water Lily that Hindus believe are a sign of Purity
Fire - This is used a lot in Hinduism usually around Siva (reflects God's work in destroying it)
  • Buddhism
Yin-Yan - This is the Chinese Buddhists symbol for peace
Swastika - I used this symbol because before it was used for the Nazi symbol it belonged to the religion of Buddhism
  • Islam
Globe - I used this to show that Islam was a world spread religion.
Star and Moon - This was the main sign of Islam, as I mentioned earlier I used this as a sign of individuality.
