Searching for God

Remembrance Day - Searching for God
By Elliot & Takumi
Age 13

Our piece of artwork is named 'Remembrance Day'.
We have chosen this name because we believe that our piece shows that every day is a day to remember and that nothing no matter how big, small, good or bad ever goes unnoticed. We have chosen it for the category, 'Searching for God'. We have done this because our piece demonstrates two children in conversation with God, trying to make sense of their losses. We also think that this is a very important aspect in many religions.

In this piece we tried to show that God was always keeping an eye on us. This is shown in the artwork by having God's eyes showing two close ups of the vast mass of graves. In these close ups it shows two grieving children mourning the death of their respective Grandfathers. It also shows them looking to the heavens for an answer to the horrific massacre which occurred between the dates of 1939 and 1945, World War II.

We have also tried to capture this heartfelt moment by drawing the two grieving children using a different illustrative style. Our aim in doing this is to emphasise the importance of prayer and to show that God is in touch.

I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that we have shown this piece in a cemetery. This is not simply because these people are mourning the death of a loved one but because we believe that a memorial is a place of tranquillity and emotion. We think that God is able to recognise this and is especially kind to those grieving.

Another feature of our artwork is the repetitive use of the cemeteries on show in the background. We think that in doing this it provides a greater impact to the viewer.

We hope that our piece has encouraged some thought towards God and the issues surrounding prayer and remembrance.
