Lydia (12)Mixing Colours Race: Dr King's Vision Today
Lydia
Age 12

My spirited art is all about a race, a race of colours, as it represents the different races of the world, working together as a team to reach the end of the race. This is Martin Luther King's vision today, as it is a race to be equal. The most important part of the race isn't the finishing line but the journey through life reaching the goal of being equal and having respect for others.

My artwork has a start and a finish line and a long winding journey and it has different coloured buttons that represent different people on top of them. Blue, green and white represents the world in a free and swaying way.

Orange is the fire and zest for the world so everyone will have lots of enthusiasm. Red means that everyone is nervous and getting ready to do the big race that is going to change the world. The next colour is yellow which means everything is happy, warm and sunny with the hope that we can achieve this.

The colour after that is blue, which means you're in doubt and thinking about just giving up but you have to be determined Green means taking a break and talking to others to just interact and catch a breath to get to know and think that different people are (just the same).

The next colour is black which is hate and turning against each other and getting very close to giving up. This is the time when a dark cloud could be racing above your head and people are feeling depressed, upset and losing the will to live.

The last colour is pink which means love and thinking you're nearly at your goal and you can make it so the world will be a fantastic place. All these different coloured feelings have varied amounts of buttons, which represent the amount of people. There are loads of buttons on the colour pink, which means love.

I have chosen the title "Mixing Colours Race". I am very proud of my piece of artwork because I have put a lot of thought and detail in to it and I think it represents Martin Luther King's vision and what it would be today because it is all about challenges.

To make my artwork I used card, paint, glue, buttons, coloured leaves, wire, fluff and glue
