Love Hate
Katie (14)

My artwork is a canvas filled with different colours, quotes and images of views and opinions around our world.

In the centre of the canvas I have created the effect of a hand coming out of the canvas and in its palm a small world. This representing that the world holds all of these ideas, even though these ideas are possibly even bigger than the world we live in.

I have tried to portray emotions and events that have changed people’s views and opinions of the world, such as the great depression. It shows the poverty and the rich in the world, and the large divide of the world. Another picture I painted onto the canvas was a snapshot of the peace movement. This shows the justice in our world, and how people’s beliefs can change their lives, others lives and even the world. On the other hand, I believe that was also a big part of peace, as without some kind of war, peace cannot be accomplished. I thought that this movement symbolised the determination of people. The pictures of love are to show the one side of our world; however I have contrasted with imaged of hate to show that in between people can be a complete contrast of emotion even if it means from one extreme to another.

Also on the canvas I have painted different religious symbols such as Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. I did this because I think that religion is a very big part of conflicts in the world, such as the Middle East conflict, yet it brings happiness and comfort to those who need it or believe in it. I had to choose how to colour the hand, which holds the world. I decided that instead of choosing a specific colour that I would cover it in newspaper. On the newspaper there is a white background with black text because the hand is covered with different black and white parts. I thought it showed that through open mindedness, different races could and can mix together.
