Shabnam has been teaching secondary RS since 2012 and has had extensive experience leading RS departments within Church schools. As someone passionate about CPD, she led the Bradford and Leeds Secondary RE hub coordinating both face-to-face meetings and virtual conferences. Shabnam's current role includes leading the Oldham and Tameside RS secondary network.

What do you love about RE?

'One of my favourite quotes about RE was said by a student in Y10, I recall him saying, 'RE seems to have all the answers and all the questions'. I love it! I think this student captured what RE is, indeed, a subject that uncovers a world of deep thinking and critical analysis that enables students to ask questions whilst providing knowledge-rich answers. RE for me is a gateway into a world that most people do not explore, it is a world underpinned by authentic narratives, rich and diverse stories, and a world that is formed around others. When taught well, RE is the glue of humanity.'

What do you love about NATRE?

'NATRE keeps RE relevant and ensures that the community is always in conversation.'
