Previously a journalist, Waqar has been teaching RE for 15 years, and been Head of Department for 11 years. He is the author of several textbooks and revision guides for GCSE and A-level RS, and has run CPD and student events across the country. Every year Waqar travels to Pakistan to train secondary teachers in Rabwah, his mother’s birthplace. He has produced resources on Islam for Kerboodle and written podcast scripts for Audiopi. Additionally, he sits on Birmingham SACRE and ASC representing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, where he serves as a coordinator of various educational projects.

What do you love about RE?

'I cannot think of a more rewarding vocation than teaching RE. We enjoy a position of great privilege and influence, facilitating young people’s exploration of a multiplicity of beliefs and issues that inspires them to think both respectfully and critically, and to make a positive difference in society.'
