Art in Heaven 2019
The Latymer School
I took inspiration from Michelangelo’s painting ‘The creation of Adam’ which portrays God giving life to man. In the painting there is a man wearing a blindfold which reads ‘God Complex’. A God complex is a psychological order characterised by extreme self-worth. The man is blindfolded in order to demonstrates how people are often blinded by their own arrogance and hubris. The two hands (the hand of God and the hand of man) do not meet, as the man doesn’t believe there is a higher power (God). I painted the man with unnatural and inhuman colours, as opposed to the flesh coloured hands, to signify how distorted the man has become, in comparison to the image of God.
