99 Names of Allah
The theme I have chosen for the project is ‘Inspiring’ and my piece of Artwork is about my religion – ‘Islam’. I have chosen my religion to reflect my chosen theme – Inspiring because my religion inspires me.
The central focus of my artwork reads ‘Allah’ in Arabic. Allah meaning God. In Islam Allah has 99 names, my artwork reflects a few of these, I have chosen the ones that resonate with me and inspire me:
Al Jaleel – the majestic one – where all glory is to Allah, and nothing can be compared to Allah. This inspires me because this reminds me that no matter how difficult things can be or feel, God is the greatest, nothing compares to God and therefore God has power to help protect is, heal us, forgive us, and love us in abundance.
Al Khaaliq – the creator – the who creates everything. This earth and everything within it have been created by God and owned by God. This is a reminder that we must look after God’s earth and all within it. This inspires me because it encourages us to look after what God has given us, that we must not take anything for granted and we must be grateful. When we are grateful, we cherish everything more, we are less selfish and more giving – which is what the world needs to be.
Al Sami – the all hearer and Al Mujeeb – the responding one. These act as a reminder that God see’s everything and hears everything and responds to us when we ask and when we don’t. we are not alone, God cares, and God does what is right for us and sometimes we don’t know what that is or we think it is something else and it not. This is inspiring to me because it helps me to remember no one is alone, God is there, we can’t see God, but God sees us and cares about us and listens to us. I think of this to make sure we are there for others for the way God is there for us. That we look at what we can do to respond when someone needs help, that might be to help an elderly person carry their shopping or make a charitable donation or just listen to someone when all they need is a friend to hear them.
All Ghaffaar – the great forgiver as Salam – the embodiment of peace – these are two of my most favourite names and these are so important in Islam, and they reflect truly what the religion is all about. God is forgiving and merciful and God loves peace and harmony. The true message of Islam is all about spreading peace and tolerance and forgiveness. In today’s world many people don’t understand the true meaning of Islam and that is because of the actions of some who might spread terror in the name of religion.
These names inspire me because they teach us that as humans, no matter what religion or not someone is, we should all love in unity, forgiving each other and spreading peace and we should be united in this. This is how I want to live my life to be and how I want the world do be, loving and forgiving, living is peace and harmony, accepting one another and living side by side and that is because we all have far more in common with each other than that which divides us; the desire to care and love, to forgive and spread peace, the desire to give and be there for on another.
Gods and each of Gods name’s inspire me to live my life to the fullest and be the sort of person God wants me to be, someone that is caring, hardworking, that respects everyone no matter who they are and what they believe or not, someone that has integrity and is honest but sensitive, someone that wants to serve God by helping people and being there for them and spreading Gods word of love and peace and forgiveness, someone that is inclusive of everyone, that is selfless and grateful and someone that is inclusive and wants to bring everyone together.
