Chessboard of Choice
My piece of artwork is based around the idea of hope and that we always have the opportunity to make good rather than bad choices in our lives.
Our actions always involve choices. They may seem black and white at first sight (like chess pieces) but looking closer, these choices are always more complicated and have consequences (like a game of chess). The words on the chess pieces represent ways we, as humans, can behave. We always have a choice to behave well rather than badly.
The hands playing the chess game symbolise all of humanity, meaning that we all have to make these decisions whoever we are. Some choices seem smaller but can have a big impact, such as moving a pawn in a game of chess. One idea here is that you should always think before you act because there may be a better choice to be made. Another idea is that how we act effects the direction of our life. Think about moving your king in to check.
