Village of Hope
Tilly (12)My spiritual art comes under the topic Hope for the World. It is a painting/collage set in a beautiful Burmese village with trees and flowers and a lake but if you look closely, it is not beautiful at all. Some of the small messy figures are holding guns and others are running away or in pain. This shows how tough it can be in what looks to be so beautiful.
The story of the picture is about Aung San Suu Kyi, the pro-democracy leader who believes in promoting human rights by peaceful protest. The military government in Burma kept her away from the people by putting her under house arrest, but she carried on her work and is hopefully on the way to do great things for her country. She in herself has hope too, as finally after 24 years she has the courage to leave Burma and meet up with Burmese refugees, other important people and visit her family. Her story is compelling and shows there might be a brighter future for her country.
I personally think that she is very inspirational and brings hope to the world. Aung San Suu Kyi is drawn in this picture in the bottom right, she looks like any other citizen but she has actually stood up and done something. It shows that being spiritual isn't about a god or a divine being, it is about believing in a cause.
I have used cut out lotus petals around the edge of my picture. The lotus flower is an important Buddhist symbol and I have used them to represent peace and nature.
