Juliet Lyal

NATRE Local Groups Officer

Juliet Lyal has extensive class teaching experience across the Primary sector and recently retired from her KS1 role teaching and leading RE in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Her national experience in RE includes primary vice-chair of NATRE (2012-18) and she has been our Local Groups officer since 2012, managing and supporting NATRE’s 260+ affiliated local groups (there were 60 in 2012). Juliet is passionate about local groups and the interaction with local group leaders, supporting the launch of new groups and responding to the enthusiasm of RE teachers who want to support others; she leads St Albans RE Teachers Together, a local group for primary teachers and works closely with other local groups in Hertfordshire.

‘Through my NATRE affiliated local group, I became fully involved in NATRE networking. It’s rather like a pebble in a pond: teaching ideas, strategies, policies and much more are shared between us and really impact the quality of RE in the schools that we represent.’

Juliet was one of the 14 commissioners tasked to produce the Commission on RE report: Religion and Worldviews, published in September 2018 and is a member of Herts SACRE. She works freelance to train and support teachers and trainees and as a p/t RE consultant for St Albans Diocese.
