Catch-up curriculum must include RE for all pupils in all years

A number of you have told the members of the NATRE Executive team that curriculum time for Religious Education and other subjects has been cut in the name of a ‘catch up curriculum’. Following on from this, the team sought clarity from the Department for Education and received the following reply:

The Government have made announcements on catch-up but none of these have any impact on religious education. It is, and will remain, a mandatory requirement for all state funded schools to teach religious education to pupils in all year groups (including year 11, even if they have not opted for RS GCSE).
