Primary Teacher Katie Freeman announced as NATRE Chair elect

In November at the final Exec meeting elections were held to choose the new Chair and Vice Chairs of NATRE these positions will be ratified by the incoming Executive in March.

We are pleased that Katie Freeman our current primary Vice Chair is stepping up to be Chair. She will be ably supported by our continuing secondary Vice Chair Joanne Harris and our new Primary Vice Chair Naomi Anstice. As Ben Wood steps down as Chair he becomes Assistant to the Chair and his wise advice will be very welcome.

Katie is extremely passionate about the work of NATRE and how it makes a difference to its members, children and young people. She has been part of the Exec for the last six years and has supported NATRE in many ways including:

  • four years on the steering group
  • Attending several party conferences and talking to MPs about the importance of RE
  • Speaking about the importance of RE in Westminster at the APPG for RE
  • Being part of resource creation groups
  • Working with RE Today
  • Keynotes at conferences in my Vice Chair role
  • Leading groups in NATRE meetings
  • Social Media Officer….

Katie is proud to be a Primary Teacher, and believes that what is going on in our primary schools is creative, knowledgeable, inspirational and exciting. She feels it is time for NATRE to have a Primary Chair and also feels supported to advocate for RE in secondary schools.

We wish her well in her new role.
