Strictly bigger and even better!

Over 345 teachers and professionals of Religious Education (RE) from across UK attended Strictly RE, NATRE's national conference, on the 26 January 2019 at the Park Inn, Heathrow.

Strictly RE has become a key date in the diary for most RE professionals with the number of attendees growing year on year. The conference is designed to inspire and equip teachers and professionals of RE with knowledge, techniques and 27 interactive and thought provoking seminars, as well as opportunities to collaborate and share best practices with peers.

Key notes on the day were delivered by Professor Grace Davie, University of Exeter, who presented on ‘Religious Literacy: what does this mean for pupils?’ and Stephen Pett and Lat Blaylock, National RE Advisers for RE Today spoke about ‘RE and realities of religion and beliefs.’

Seminars on the day covered hot topics such as ‘Dealing with withdrawal from RE’, ‘RE as part of broad and balanced curriculum’, ‘Teaching about non-religious world views in primary schools’ and a discussion panel on ‘National RE: what does the future hold?’ Following the recent report from the Commission on RE.

A key event was the launch of a highly anticipated new publication from RE Today ‘Assessment in RE: a practical guide’ which both primary and secondary teachers have been eagerly waiting for.

'Superb day! Great seminar choices - and great seminars, content exactly as promised! Even the one I had chosen that was changed last minute due to presenter changes was absolutely brilliant and really helpful! Lots of up to date information and clearly presented ideas.'

Ben Wood, NATRE Chair, has commented:

'The 5th StrictlyRE was the biggest yet, and possibly the largest gathering of RE teachers we have ever seen! It was a superb day, with fantastic keynotes from Prof. Grace Davie and a Stephen Pett/Lat Blaylock double act. The breakout sessions were very well received as well, with many of them being led by practising teachers, sharing what they do in their classrooms. Coupled with an impressive suite of exhibitors offering resources and support to RE teachers, this year's Strictly might have been the best yet!'
