Interviews with Charity Workers

Interviews with charity workers presents a series of interview with charity workers: CAFOD; Muslim Global Relief; Volunteers in Brazil; Christian Aid. Material for each charity is presented under two headings - work and faith. The interviews provide much information about motivation for charity work (individual and charity), religious reasons for helping the poor, and examples of types of aid.

Classroom suggestions:

a) Ask students to watch one of the interviews and identify:
i) Examples of emergency aid and long term aid provided by the charity;
ii) Religious reasons why the religion concerned believes it is right to help the poor;
iii) Arguments for and against the statement: ‘Charity begins at home’.

b) Invite a charity worker into the classroom and video the interview. Create an online hotseat, with your invited guest answering moderated questions from students by email over the following two or three weeks.
