Year 5 - Creation and science; conflicting or complementary? – LP

This Learning Pathway is from Year 5, Unit 34 of the RE Today Primary RE Curriculum. Within this unit, pupils will explore the importance of creation within the ‘Big Story’ of the Bible. They will examine Genesis 1 and discover diverse interpretations among Christians. Pupils will engage in discussions to evaluate whether Genesis 1 conflicts or complements scientific understanding. They will also encounter religious and non-religious scientists, exploring the compatibility of science and faith. Additionally, they will explore various theological theories used by Christians to interpret the creation story, highlighting their potential significance for believers. By the conclusion of the unit, pupils should appreciate that while some perceive science and religion as opposites, others do not. This Learning Pathway is accessible only to NATRE Primary and Cross Phase School Enhanced members.
