Year 4 - Keeping 5 pillars of Islam

This unit of work is intended to enable pupils to understand the significance of the five Pillars of Islam, and to reflect on the sources of strength in their own lives. Many Muslim pupils will know a lot about Five Pillars from their own faith community, but the intentions here are to provide space for depth of thinking and developing understanding.

This is a special and original unit of RE and can be used for all pupils at any point in the age range 7-11, though probably best meets learning needs in Year 5 or 6. It provides for breadth and balance, and reference to all of the six principal religions in the UK, alongside the studies in depth of individual religions that schools will be providing at key stage two.
