Spirited Poetry 2019

QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS

A Formula For Life Winner

Fenella (Age 13)

Manchester High School For Girls

A Formula For Life

Can I craft happiness,

With my bare hands?

Is it really as easy as,

Life + love = joy?

Can I destroy my sadness,

With my sheer will?

Is it really as easy as,

Life - depression = joy?

Can I find myself,

Deep in my own mind?

Is it really as easy as,

Life + time = peace?

It's not really that easy,

It's the same for us all.

But I know that life,

It's not just one formula,

It's a whole universe of calculations

Questions? Questions? Questions?Winner

Finley (Age 7)

Nutgrove Methodist Primary School

Questions? Questions? Questions?

"Why did Judas lie...

to make Jesus die?

Why did Simon Peter betray...

on that day?

What does Jesus look like now?

How did he rise from the tomb? How?

When the disciples were eleven

was Judas in Heaven?

When Jesus died...

why did he cry?

Has Jesus still got holes in his hands?

Do we live by His commands?"

The Choice Winner

Bejaj and Amelia-Rose (Age 14 and 15)

St Augustine's Priory

The Choice

"Fate.Destiny.

God's predisposition.

Time runs out

looks over, cross

"Pregnant."

National Health Service

Repercussions

for the future

Indecisive,pen shakes in hand,

breath falls heavily.

Does this defy the Lord?

Am I with child?

Or am I with nucleus,cytoplasm,membrane,

mitochondria?

I DON'T KNOW"

A Whole Bunch of Questions We Will Never Find OutWinner

Philip (Age 9)

St Matthew's School

A Whole Bunch of Questions We Will Never Find Out...

What does God even look like?

A wise spirit, an ancient man,

Or a flash of fire?

How do we know,

That ours is the only

Universe?

How could there be nothing

At the very very beginning,

Of time , space and matter?

Is time even real,

When we can’t even see it?

Is what will happen sealed,

Or is there some way to change it?

Is there a such thing as aliens?

And do they have a God?

Why are they keeping the secret

Of where and what they are?

Does my life have a purpose?

And

If so

How do we know what it is?

If we reached the end of the universe,

What would be barring our way?

Would it be as hard as bedrock?

Or as soft as wet clay?

Do we come from a species

Ape or have we always been?

I don’t know the answer to one of these

And I guess that we never will.

Questions For GodWinner

Keifer (Age 11)

St Matthew's School

Questions For God

God is everywhere; below our feet, atop our heads. But why?

Why does he allow death?

He is in the sky, he is in the sea, he is even in you and me.

He is infinitely big, infinitely small but barely seems to help at all.

The blood, the tears, the everlasting fears but he doesn’t seem to interfere.

He is in the planets, in the sea, in the fire, in the peace and in kindness, everywhere even in the late night air.

But why the conflicts? Why the wars? Lord, please help us! But you don’t at all…

We need you, Lord. Please come help! We need you, Lord, to return us to health.

Why do you keep the criminals close and let the innocent drift?

I suppose it is all a part of your plan. I suppose we’ll never know.

But Lord, please come and save our souls.

God is in the planets, in space, in every race,

In Buddhism, in Christianity, even in democracy,

In the sun, in the rain, in all living things, even in the universe where everybody lives. And dies.

Who Am I?Winner

Aleeza (Age 8)

Manchester High School For Girls

Who Am I?

Tingles running up my spine

Smiles, tears, screams all bottled up

Fears thrashing in my head

Time counting down, flashing before my eyes

Slipping through my string of life destined to be cut

Who am I?

Am I just one worthless life that lives among the world?

Or am I the world to someone?

Am I destined to make a difference?

Or will I keep on dreaming for something that will never happen?

Am I the obstacle in someone’s life?

Or am I the person that leads them to success?

Or am I the obstacle in my own life?

Questions, questions, questions

A constant spinning whirlwind left unanswered….

Who Am I?

I am made of flesh and bones

I am an ignited flame whose flame is destined to be blown out

I am one life within the billions trying to have a purpose

I am gifted with life and happiness

I am strong and pretty

I am my own person

I am unique

I am me
