Spirited Poetry 2019

Windows on the soul

If you look in the window of your soul, what do you see? If you look out from the window of your soul, then what? This theme encourages children and young people to dream and imagine the spirit and soul. If you could look through a window in your mind or soul into the ‘big beyond’ what will they see? Does the ‘window of the soul’ open in life, through music, by spiritual discipline, or only at death? Does the spirit or the soul even exist? Original work will go beyond a sunset seen through a window! What do the different religions teach in their scriptures about our spiritual side, our human nature, our souls?

JoyWinner

Annabelle (Age 6)

Clearwater Church of England Primary Academy

Joy

The important thing about Joy is it makes you want to dance.

It makes you laugh and sing. It makes you cry. It makes you

fall in love.It makes you smile and make new friends.

But the important thing about Joy is it makes you dance.

Soul Song Winner

Edith (Age 11)

Leicester Grammar Junior School

Soul Song

What is the soul?

An infinite loop of love and personality

A spiral of safety inside you

A mystery of man

The sun inside you

What is the soul?

The howling wind that powers you to live

The electric sparks that fly when you feel good

The magic part of you that makes you you

No one can steal your soul

What is the soul?

A burning fire inside you telling you to believe

A soul song is a power in you that sings your sadness away

Sing your soul song

What next?

When your body on earth fails, your window is closed, your soul song ends your

Soul will go to the place over the rainbow where losts souls go

Do what makes your soul shine

Wondering won't helpWinner

Ella (Age 12)

Wycombe High School

Wondering won't help

Wondering won't help,

It's the science that counts.

There isn't a soul,

Now that's one to announce.

Wondering won't help,

We all know it's true.

Of course there's a soul,

and it lives within you!

Wondering won't help,

I believe it's in there somewhere.

Maybe not an actual thing,

But what gives you your flair.

Wondering won't help,

It's all just a story.

Probably made up long ago

To give someone glory.

Wondering won't help,

We all have different ideas.

Dreams and wonders,

And none of it is very clear.

Window of my soulWinner

Sydney (Age 9)

St Matthew's School

Windows Of My Soul

Life might be a mystery but it’s equally spectacular,

Eye-widening, breath-taking, unkind or peculiar.

Life’s story is eternal but it also has an ending,

Death is inevitable, however heartrending.

If you start to worry, your story becomes unsettled,

Like a rose in full bloom losing its petals.

It can be petrifying, eye-watering, a lake of heavy tears,

You never know what evil is lurking amongst your fears.

If you always keep moving, things can become more stable,

It’s like you’re a baby learning to climb out of your cradle.

Your story will continue right to the end,

Always keep believing round every corner and every bend.

Window on the SoulWinner

Tatenda (Age 11)

St Matthew's School

Window On The Soul

In the mirror is your reflection, but be careful not to miss,

How your spirit lingers in your eyes full of bliss.

You dream in your sleep but could it just be,

Your spirit reminiscing and travelling free.

Your soul inhabits your hidden inner self,

Unnoticed, untouched and entirely by itself.

Even the most advanced minds of our planet,

Cannot grasp the answer, the possibilities infinite.

Who knows the answers? Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims or Atheists?
